Honey Bee U-Pick Food Cathedral

Located on the south side of Ann Arbor, Honey Bee U-pick offers seasonal you-pick strawberries, raspberries, hazelnuts, blueberries, pumpkins and squash. Built as a celebration of local food and the connection to place that it helps create, this frame measures 42’x50’, with a 14’x14’ covered entry way on each end of the barn. The frame was primarily cut in Red oak, with the covered entryways being framed in decay-resistant white oak. The archway in the front was a last minute add on that we suggested and the owners approved, and incorporates wood cut from the owner’s farm. Finally, the doors put on the front and back entrances are reclaimed mansion doors adapted for use on the barn, measure 3’x10’ and are a full 3” thick of solid walnut and mahogany. Cut as our Covid project and raised in fall of 2020.

Honey Bee is the u-pick branch of Tantre Farm, owned by Richard Andres and Deb Lentz, in Chelsea, MI. Tantre Farm was one of the first small, organic farms to appear on the food scene in Ann Arbor, and has played a large role in creating the market for locally grown vegetables, meats, mushrooms, and raw milk in the area.
